18U Head Coaches – Randy Roberts & Associate Head Coach Jim Shively
Randy Roberts, who played his collegiate baseball at Grace College (IN) is in his second stint as a head coach for a Chargers team, serving as the 15U Head Coach in 2016 and in an assistant coach role for the Chargers three different years. Randy began his baseball coaching career back in 1986 as a young Puerto Rico high school coach where he promptly led his team to the 1986 State Championship!
For the past 22 years, he has served as the head baseball coach at Washington Township High School near Valparaiso, Indiana where he has amassed over 400 victories, 9 conference championships, 8 sectional championships, and 3 regional championships! Roberts has also had 10 Washington Township players go on and play college baseball during his tenure.
Associate Head Coach Jim Shively was the Head Baseball Coach at Triton High School for 11 years (94-01 & 09-11). Jim played his college baseball at Bethel College where he was on an NCCAA National Championship team (90’) and an NCCAA All-American Outfielder (91’). Coach Shively’s Triton teams won 2 conference championships, 2 sectional championships, and 1 state championship (01’)!
Shively had 12 players go on to play college baseball and one player who was drafted out of high school at Triton HS. Coach Shively has won numerous Plymouth area coach of the year awards and was the Indiana State HS 1A coach of the year in 01, the year of his State Championship. Shively has been a varsity assistant coach at Mishawaka HS the past six years where the program has won 2 sectional championships. He also has served as an assistant coach in the Chargers system for several years.
17U Head Coach – Christian Davis
Christian is in his second year coaching for the Chargers as he served as our 18U Head Coach in 2018. Christian is from South Haven, Michigan, and graduated from South Haven High School in 2013. During his high school career, Davis was a three-sport athlete and was a four-year varsity letterman in baseball. He was named first team all-conference three times, all-district twice, and earned first team academic all-state honors his senior year while batting .420. Christian helped lead his team to their first conference championship in 20 years his junior season.
Following his high school career, Christian went on to attend Spring Arbor University from 2013-2017 where he played for ABCA and NAIA Hall of Fame Coach Sam Riggleman, and former Chargers coach Ryan Marken. At SAU, Christian was a catcher and first baseman and was a member of teams that made appearances in back-to-back NAIA National Tournaments for the first time since 2010. Christian was the recipient of the Cougar Champion Award his senior season at SAU for performance on and off the field while being named an NAIA Scholar-Athlete twice in his career.
Christian is a high school chemistry teacher at Lowell High School near Grand Rapids, Michigan, and also serves as the freshman baseball head coach.

16U Head Coach – Josiah Hissong
Josiah Hissong will begin his first season with the Indiana Chargers in 2019. He’s from Greencastle, Pennsylvania and graduated from Greencastle-Antrim High School in 2015 where he lettered in baseball.
After graduating Hissong attended Alderson Broaddus University and was a member of the 2016 Great Midwest Athletic Conference championship and Midwest Regional team. At Alderson Broaddus, he played three seasons before joining the baseball staff as a student-assistant for Head Coach Matt Yurish. While on staff at AB he worked mainly with the catchers, threw batting practice, and helped with other duties. He also spent stints in the summer with a travel team in Greencastle as an assistant coach.
Hissong is looking forward to coaching with the Chargers in 2019 with the goal of being a college baseball coach for his career.

16U White Head Coach – Joel Mishler
Chargers General Manager and co-founder, Joel Mishler, has been involved with coaching, scouting, and teaching the game for over 35 years. He served as the Glen Oaks Community College head baseball coach for 10 years where he won over 300 games and took his 2000 team to the World Series and a third-place finish in NJCAA Div. II.
During his tenure at Glen Oaks, Mishler coached 12 players that went on to play professional baseball and over 60 players that played at four-year universities and colleges. He served as an Associate Scout for the Baltimore Orioles from 1996-2005 and is currently an Associate Scout with the Miami Marlins. Coach Mishler is in his 13th year as a head coach for the Chargers where more than 165 players from the Chargers organization have moved on to play at the collegiate level since 2007.

15U Head Coach – Tyler Reed
Tyler Reed returns for his third season as a head coach with the Indiana Chargers. Tyler graduated from Brooklyn Columbia Central High School in Brooklyn, Michigan, in 2013, with academic honors. Tyler was a three-year varsity letterman in baseball and received honors of first team all-conference, all-region, and all-state while batting .480 with 16 home runs for his career.
After high school, Reed went on to play at Jackson Community College (MI) where he earned all-conference, academic all-conference, and all-region honors. After two seasons, Tyler transferred to Spring Arbor University where he played for ABCA and NAIA Hall of Fame coach Sam Riggleman and former Indiana Chargers coach Ryan Marken. Tyler excelled at SAU where he earned Crossroads League Player of the Week honors, was First Team All-Conference, and was named the Crossroads League Newcomer of the Year (junior year), and was Honorable Mention All-Conference his senior year.
Tyler served as an assistant coach at Spring Arbor, where he was the hitting coach during the 2018 season. He graduated from Spring Arbor with a degree in Elementary Education and is currently teaching Kindergarten at Lenawee Christian Schools where he is also in his first year as the head varsity baseball coach.
Tyler Reed
14U Head Coach – Brad Lantz & Assistant Coach Garrett Scott
This will be Brad’s second year as the head coach for the Chargers 14U team. Brad attended Fairfield High School where he was an All-Conference and All-Area player in 2013 after leading the area in wins with 10. He was also a part of the Indiana Chargers program for two years, helping him continue his player career at Goshen College for the next 4 years, where he graduated in 2017 after studying Physical Education and Sports Management. In 2016 and 2017, Brad coached the 14U baseball team at Fairfield Jr./Sr. High School. Brad is in his first year as a Physical Education teacher at West Noble Middle School and is serving as Asst. Varsity Baseball Coach for the West Noble Baseball Program.
Garrett Scott was also a Charger and a 2013 graduate from Fairfield High School where he was an all-conference player and earned a scholarship to play baseball at Huntington University. Garrett will be assisting coach Lantz this year with the 14U team. He currently owns and operates his own Home Improvement business that was started in the summer of 2018 and is called Uniqx Home Improvement.

14U-FW Head Coach – Kyle DeKoninck, Assistant Coaches Tony Gongaware & Evan Jurjevic
Kyle DeKoninck graduated from Perrysburg High School in 2015, before he and his family moved to Auburn, Indiana in 2016. Kyle attended Bluffton University for one year before transferring to Saint Francis University in Fort Wayne, where he is currently a redshirt junior left-handed pitcher. He is majoring in business with a concentration in sports management, while also pursuing a minor in coaching.
Kyle was a two-year varsity letterman in baseball at Perrysburg HS and was an academic all-conference, and second team all-conference pitcher his senior season. Kyle was also selected to play in the Mizuno All Ohio baseball game played at the Ohio State University after his senior year. At Saint Francis, Kyle has been a mainstay on the pitching staff over the past two seasons. In 2018, Kyle led the team in ERA and finished eighth in the conference in that category. Kyle is looking to finish his college career strong and to get into coaching after graduation.
Kyle will be assisted by coaches Gongaware (April & May) and Jurjevic (June & July). Both coaches Gongaware and Jurjevic were head coaches of Charger teams in 2018 and serve as are our two lead instructors in Fort Wayne. Gongaware is also the Chargers Assistant Operations Director for the Fort Wayne teams as well. Both combine years of college baseball playing and coaching experience along with the same at the youth and high school ages.
Evan Jurjevic joined the Chargers staff in 2015 as the Chargers Strength & Conditioning Coach and served as the 12U Head Coach for the FW Chargers in 2018. Evan graduated from La Porte High School in La Porte, Indiana, in 2010, where he earned six varsity letters in both baseball and basketball. In baseball, he was a 2-time All-Region selection and had a career batting average of .400. During his senior campaign, the Slicers were ranked 22nd in the nation by USA Today. The Slicer team consisted of 11 players who went on to play collegiate baseball.
After high school, Evan attended Carson-Newman University in Jefferson City, TN, where he was selected team captain of the Eagles for 2 seasons and garnered a career batting average of .321. As a senior, Evan batted a team and collegiate career-best .358 while earning All-South Atlantic Conference honors. He set the all-time Carson-Newman baseball record with reaching base safely in 43 consecutive games, and he was the recipient of the 2015 Carson-Newman University Baseball MVP and Best Hitter awards. On March 24th, 2015, Evan was named the Player of the Week in the Volunteer State by the Tennessee Sportswriters' Association marking the first time that a Carson-Newman baseball player has earned the accolade. Evan finished 13th in the nation in doubles and was ranked top 10 nationally in doubles per game. While taking care of business at the plate, he also held a .991 fielding percentage.
Evan graduated from Carson-Newman in 2014 with a degree in Exercise Science and in 2015 with a Master’s in Education, with an emphasis in Leadership and Coaching. He is currently earning his Doctorate at Trine University, and he is certified by the National Strength and Conditioning Association as a Strength and Conditioning Specialist.
